Happy Holidays!!! :)

So great things are in the works, but we actually won't speak about them in detail until they happen. ;) Trust me though...you'll be the first to know. As we approach the new year, we'd just like to take to time again to thank you for your support; and to wish you all a very happy holiday season. May all your dreams come true, your families stay blessed, and desires be granted. Keep striving toward your goals and remember it is better to give than it is to receive. What are you getting family and friends for the holidays? What do you want for Christmas? Any special vacation plans? Keep us in the loop :) Take care and God bless.

Artist and Producer Spotlight!!! L.A. Stand Up!!!

Good afternoon everybody and welcome to the world of 80'S'ix! Today we'd like to just take a moment to focus on new releases. As you are well aware, CD's that have recently hit stores include Rihanna, Kanye, Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj, Chrisette Michele, Jazmine Sullivan, Ne-Yo, etc. What we are most excited about though is Miguel's album, 'All I Want is You'. When listening to Miguel, you can definitely hear who his musical influences are, ranging from Phil Collins, Jimi Hendrix, and Donny Hathaway to Prince. What sets Miguel apart from the rest is the fact that he can really sing, and the instrumentation and lyrics on the record just can't be compared to anyone else out right now. This indeed is real music, music with substance...the sound we've been waiting for. Love, love, love 'Hard Way', 'To the Moon', and 'My Piece', in which he pours out his heart and talks about how his main girl, his love, is his piece of mind, and wins his heart; while other girls will continue to want of piece of him. We definitely recommend purchasing the album and following Miguel ( @migmoney ) on Twitter. Special, special shout out to The Fisticuffs ( @FisticuffsMusic on Twitter) who produced several songs on the album! What sets the Fisticuffs (Brian & Mac) apart from the rest is they play all instruments you hear in their production...no samples! They are ridiculously talented and are sure to take the music world by storm. Not only have they produced for Miguel, but they've worked with artists such as Jazmine Sullivan whose album 'Love Me Back' is getting great reviews as well. The Fisticuffs produced 'One Night Stand' on her first album, Fearless. Congrats to The Fisticuffs and Miguel on an amazing record! This is only the beginning ;)

P.S. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. XOXO

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

We'd like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving Day, we hope you have a blessed one. Remember, today may be the national day for thanksgiving, but we should live each day of our lives reflecting on the blessings that God has granted us all. Some may have riches, some may not; what matters most is that we have LIFE - be grateful. To all of our peers, please step away from the Mac! Spend time with the fam, eat well and sleep well.

Truth be told, we'll probably kick a session off today anyway #cantevenlie.

How Do You Know?

Almost every writer does their own rendition of the 'touch-down dance' when they knock out a record; whether they do it on the inside or outside doesn't matter, the point is they do it. There's something almost euphoric about hearing your own work posing perfectly on a musical canvas....or so you think. My question to our peers is - 'How do you know that that's a smash?' Hopefully you're not surrounded by a bunch of 'yes men'.

If you're anything like 80'S'ix , you wouldn't say a song isn't a smash; instead you'd say that song doesn't 'smash' as much as the others haha! But seriously, if you don't believe it, who else will? Of course you have to be realistic, not everything you do is necessarily going to break records but that doesn't mean you should strive for anything less than chart-toppers. Then there's the constant pressure to figure out what A&Rs and Executives want because we all know they want what's hot right now. So in the end we have to find a happy medium between sharing our artistry and satisfying the cookie-cutter expectations of a label; quite the task isn't it?

Hmm.

This post was the product of pure curiosity....please proceed.

Nicki Minaj

Okay...so Nicki M's album, Pink Friday, is set to drop on Tuesday, November 22nd. She was on the Rickey Smiley morning show today and it was actually a really good interview! Nicki Minaj actually seems to be a really "down to earth" person on her grind! The animated and quirky Minaj said that she still doesn't feel as though she's "made it", but she's just really blessed to be where she's at. She spoke about how her father abused alcohol and drugs, and stated that she found herself coping with it by creating music and staying focused. Her answers to Rickey and the team were definitely "heart-felt"...not contrived. She also denied the rumor that she and Keyshia Cole had any beef whatsoever, stating that the two had actually collaborated on Keyshia's latest album. She's on top right now...can't deny it. Like Regina Bradley said, "She's in the mouths of fans and haters alike and by the looks of it, Nicki Minaj's album is going to do quite well. What do you guys think? Let us know! Lata. ;)

VOTE!!!! VOTE!!! VOTE!!!

Okay we understand...many of you think that at this point, your vote doesn't matter and we've already done enough by voting before. Wrong! Your vote does count, and now more than ever, it's important that you go out and do your part! No matter what your belief is, you can make a difference in what's to happen in the future. One thing's certain; in the last few years, we have seen our economy suffer, we've seen our soldiers go to war, and we've seen the unemployment rate "skyrocket". Take a step to better our community and our families. Vote! Even if you're not into politics and don't know who to vote for, take the time to vote on matters that you do know about. Let your voice be heard so that changes can take place in whatever state you reside in and in the U.S. on a whole. THIS WILL AFFECT US ALL! You can't complain about what's being done or not being done if you don't take the time to try to change it, especially when you've earned your right to do so. Thanks again for visiting the blog and God bless! ;)

Random Thoughts...

Did you guys see Kanye's movie? What did you think about it? We've heard a bunch of mixed reviews but one thing is undeniable; the cinematography is beautiful. It is so well done. Leave it up to Kanye to do something "outside of the box". Most feedback is positive; although there are some who think it doesn't make sense (kanye shrug). Some think it's just too much, and others think it's brilliant. All in all, it definitely has grabbed everyone's attention and has people talking which is just what he wanted...sooooooooooooooooooooo, it's safe to say it's been a hit. Thanks for following guys. Anything you'd like to see on the blog? Any questions, comments, or topics you'd like to discuss? Let us know! Take care and God bless! ;)

Make-Up Artists???!!!

Hey! Good morning everyone! If anyone knows of some fly make-up artists in the South Florida/Miami area, please let us know! With that being said, if anyone knows of some fly hairstylists as well, please let us know ASAP! We're pretty much "crunched" for time, so flying to Atlanta to get it done is OUT of the question. LOL!!! Thanks a bunch and have a good day! ;)

.....Down...100 More to Go!!!!

Last week was pretty hectic...but that's a good thing! Trust me...we're not complaining! We finished songs back to back! Some were done in ten minutes...some...several hours, but the fact is that the songs have been written. Now for the mixing and final touches...and this is only the beginning. It's funny how you'll have one person totally hate a track and get nothing from it, and then you have another who thinks it's a masterpiece and gets total inspiration from it! I guess that's why you have so many people who love a song, and others who hate it! One man's trash is definitely another man's treasure. Anyhow, no time for rambling...have a good day and God bless! ;)

GIRL GROUP ANTHEMS!!!

Ok guys! Over the weekend, we cooked up some more heat! This time, the focus was on girl group anthems (i.e. Pussycat Dolls, Rich Girl, Sophia Fresh). It came out great! Vicki (singer/songwriter/vocal arranger) came & DID HER THING! The girl is sick with the pen, and her vocal techniques are crazy, but the whole song? The end result? Magic...he he. Stay tuned as usual. We'll keep you guys posted, and enjoy your day! ;)

God is good, and we'll continue to keep you guys posted as far as the movement is concerned. What's up for the weekend? 80'S'ix will be attending the Sobe Hair Show in the M-I-A!!! Can't wait to see Jazmine Sullivan perform! It's goin' DOWN! Be blessed. Holla! ;)

Chemistry was instant, and we made a smash! I think we're on to something guys...stay tuned! Nothing really more to say...keeping it short today. Holla!

Food for Thought

Everything negative that happens STILL happens for a reason. Every "no" you hear only gives you more time to learn, research, and perfect your craft. God works in mysterious ways. In working toward your goals, you can sometimes forget WHO it is that has blessed you in the first place...who has given you the gifts/talents that you have, and that God has also surrounded you with people/family who have a genuine concern for your best interest; people who have been there from day one, and don't plan on leaving. That in itself is a lot to be thankful for.
Though it is true that time waits for no man, it is also true that God is ALWAYS on time, and whatever opportunity or situation...whatever door that remains closed...whatever door you're knocking on that's not opening? Right now, that's just not where you need to be.
Please continue to follow your dreams, continue to bless others, and keep a positive attitude about things (yes...stay positive no matter how discouraged you may be). Understand that everyone has a different circumstance or situation. If you're blessed to be in a spot that allows for flexibility of time, or the chance to meet new people, take advantage of that! You'll eventually reach the top. Don't look at what the next person is doing and feel as though you're inferior, and don't look at someone else and think you're superior either! Just keep going, realizing that we're all human...all trying to make it. We all have red blood, and we all want to love, be loved, and be successful. Ask God what it is you need to do, and move from there! We make mistakes, but don't forget where you've come from and where you're destined to be. Today is a new day. Stop dwelling on the past! Make today you're yesterday!
*Put God first and all else will fall into place. Try Him. What have you got to lose?*

Yes We've Been Bad...But We've Been Busy!

I know I know, blogging should be a part of our routine now. But life happens lol and we've been in and out of sessions. Sleep has become a major commodity these days. I'm not complaining though, the catalog is sounding really mean right about now!

For those who have been tuning in and rooting for (or against) us, we're sending you guys and gals a big S/O for motivating us. We especially want to send a huge S/O to the producers we've worked with in the last few weeks; working with Cool & Dre is just as dope as it sounds, Illfactor is nothing short of amazing and Gorilla Tek is a beast! SteffNasty gave us a whole new appreciation for Skype! 80'S'ix and Beat Banggahz were going in like we were in the A-room people! #classic

In the coming weeks team 80'S'ix is teaming up with some talented writers...and yes, we will be posting some new jawns for you guys to vibe to! Miss Tosha hurry up and get to Miami! Make sure you guys follow @iammisstosha on twitter; very talented writer.

Lately, a number of people have been asking if we're down to collab. We're in pursuit of the dream and if you're headed in that direction, we'll walk with you. So for everyone asking if we want to get it in....of course we do! We're about making good music and making it to the charts. We're not about the politics. That said, producers, writers, photographers, graphic designers, janitors...let's get it!

And Another One!!!! ;)

In more news, 80'S'ix was in the building with Gorilla Tek (@GorillaTek on twitter), C Major (@CMajor), Sarah Love (@PrettySarahLove) and Face 47 (@Face47). The chemistry was crazzzyyyyy!!! We've got yet another heater to add to the catalogue, and are definitely working with some talented people. God is good, and it's great to be around people who love what they do and do it well. Face 47 is a rapper/songwriter (don't get it twisted...he sings a lil' somethin' too...LOL), while C Major and Sarah Love are both singers and songwriters. Gorilla Tek, as you know, is an awesome producer. We'll be in the studio again working on material for both C Major and Sarah Love, so stay tuned. Again, thanks for your support and for following our journey to the top. See you there.

Good Times!

*Get Familiar*

Clockwork

We're turning into a well-oiled machine over here guys! I'm talking write, cut and mix 2-3 smashes in one day! I think we deserve to say 'I'm feeling myself' right now. Now that that small wave of self-admiration has passed, we're ready for another week's worth blood, sweat and tears. No biggie though, the blood, sweat and tears are picayune when compared with the accomplishments that await.

Lord knows how discouraging this industry can be sometimes, but I quickly realize that it isn't just the industry that is discouraging - it's life - duh. So what do we do? Pick up a pen, set up a session and keep it moving because the politics can only be in the way for so long. I refuse to forfeit this race on account of not having a huge budget or not being signed to a major. Instead I'm compelled to go in smash after smash until I shatter this glass ceiling above my head. As we write, we don't consider building a catalog anymore because we are building a regime now.

We have come a long way, still we have an even longer way to go. I'm just thankful that we have our hands full. Moreover, I feel blessed for working with everyone that we've worked with thus far.

Hot Producers!

As we continue to build the catalog, it gets easier and easier with talented producers to work with! We've recently been working with The Androidz (follow them on twitter...@THEANDROIDZ). Not only are we working with the Androidz, based in New York, but another production team based in Los Angeles called Fisticuffs (you can find them @FisticuffsMusic on Twitter) as well. As we plan trips to both NY & Cali in the near future, feel free to get at us for any projects you need writers on! Take care & God bless!

Gettin' It Iiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnn!!!

Okay...more news...80'S'ix had the opportunity to write with the one and only Michelle Delamor! Now THAT chick can sang (as you all know from Idol of course)! Lol! We had a blast. She's beautiful, extremely talented, humble, and sweet. Follow her on twitter! It's @MDelamor, aight? Pics and all that other good stuff on the way...holla! Stay tuned... ;)

The Chick Can Sang!

Here's the incredible YN going in! Just so you know, nothing gets in between YN and Mary. Please believe that whenever we get in the studio with Ms. Blige, YN is going to go so hard!

I am so mad at that intro though; pure comedy on my behalf!

We're In Pasadena!!!!!!

Ahhh the adventures of Soaky Siren and YN! Somehow our trip to Roscoe's led to an impromptu appearance in Pasadena. Now I'm usually the first to call people out for getting lost - especially if they have a GPS for goodness sake, but we fall down. What can I say, it happens to the best of us!

See what had happened was, somewhere along the I-10, I got distracted by the rolling hills enveloping the interstate and I even manged to squeeze in a brief photo opp in some random tunnel. I was so intrigued that I somehow forgot to hit START on the GPS, #fail. Needless to say we were In Pasadena!!!

Where Are The Guys?

Umm, as much I applaud the girl power thing we've got going on here, we need some testosterone - in the form of a male vocalist. We were getting by just fine until we wrote these last 2 songs that happen to be well below our range. Now unless YN gets an adam's apple and her voice cracks, we're going to need a dope male singer - FAST. If you know anyone, let us know!

80SixMusic@gmail.com

What up?! :)

Okay...got some GREAT things going on right now! We're currently working with a number of producers on various projects...and...they REALLY like what we've been submitting!!! I've said it before, but we're SO thankful to everyone for your support, & for showing us love. These are very, very, humble beginnings, but this is only the beginning and there's a lot more in store! Be sure to follow us on twitter... @SoakySiren and @YNhits.
On a side note, you may wonder why we say that "We write hits", or why a twitter name has to have "hits" in it...you may say that you haven't heard anything yet. If you don't believe in yourself, then no one will. We're not at all conceited or just talking "BS". If you don't take the time to perfect your craft, no one will take you seriously. If you don't follow your dreams, you'll live life thinking, "Shoulda, coulda, woulda"... We are confident that we make music that makes people want to dance, cry, love...THAT's what music is for...to express yourself! We're also confident that as we build relationships and build our catalogue, everything will fall into place. Everyone started somewhere...from JayZ to Beyonce', to Diddy...to Darkchild. We're just hungry and humble; and although we're not quite yet where we want to be, we're getting there...slowly but surely. We're getting everything together for you guys! Soooo thanks again & God bless! ;)

LA - MIAMI

Now that we're back in Miami, it's safe to say that A)LA is is where it's at and B) LA is where 80'S'ix needs to be! Everything from the music to the people made the experience so worth it. Ironically, the people in LA and Hollywood didn't act 'Hollywood' at all. We met up with a number of producers including the legendary Darkchild and went into SMASHMODE as we hopped from one studio to another. Darkchild is as incredibly humble as he is talented.
We have to send a special thanks to Shaun Beastley, Rap 1220, Dorian, The Fisticuffs, Ben Briggs, Remy and Anthony Renoir; teamwork makes the dream work! The pics are coming soon of course! For now, check out the video we did when we met up with Darkchild...stay tuned!

Random Reflections

SOOOOOO excited to leave for LA! After sitting back and really looking at the catalog, I have to admit, we've come a LONG way! Unfortunately, having a mean catalog is only half the battle (realistically speaking, it's more like only a quarter of it). Not only do you have to endure the relentless politics, you have to accept that you will have a love-hate relationship with this industry. Music can be many things; some say music is therapy or music is love -- and I couldn't agree more. But on the flip-side, music can be the complete opposite.

As we go through these peaks and valleys, I'm not as bewildered as I am jaded with the whole thing. At first, I took offense to all things negative; and when I say negative, I am not referring to any of the constructive criticism -- this is the wrong field to be in if you are insecure. Now, I do a Kanye-shrug whenever I run into the negativity. If I got a nickel for all the times we've heard 'this is a definite placement' I'd be writing this blog from a beach house in Eleuthera right now. Moreover, what's it gonna take for some of these called 'super-producers' to understand that there will be no stroking of any sort? So you, your ego and whatever else your coons and groupies usually stroke can kick rocks -- I didn't sign up for that, sorry. Alas, there is always the animosity that either blatantly or silently rear its ugly head. But haters flatter me so whatever, I only have a problem with it when it precludes progress.

I'm sure my love-hate relationship with music now makes sense to most people while it doesn't. After all, why stick with something if you keep getting all these setbacks? *sigh* Despite the asinine people and the countless struggles, I'm still smitten. And I always will be. I guess that's why good things are beginning to unfold.
