Artist and Producer Spotlight!!! L.A. Stand Up!!!
Good afternoon everybody and welcome to the world of 80'S'ix! Today we'd like to just take a moment to focus on new releases. As you are well aware, CD's that have recently hit stores include Rihanna, Kanye, Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj, Chrisette Michele, Jazmine Sullivan, Ne-Yo, etc. What we are most excited about though is Miguel's album, 'All I Want is You'. When listening to Miguel, you can definitely hear who his musical influences are, ranging from Phil Collins, Jimi Hendrix, and Donny Hathaway to Prince. What sets Miguel apart from the rest is the fact that he can really sing, and the instrumentation and lyrics on the record just can't be compared to anyone else out right now. This indeed is real music, music with substance...the sound we've been waiting for. Love, love, love 'Hard Way', 'To the Moon', and 'My Piece', in which he pours out his heart and talks about how his main girl, his love, is his piece of mind, and wins his heart; while other girls will continue to want of piece of him. We definitely recommend purchasing the album and following Miguel ( @migmoney ) on Twitter. Special, special shout out to The Fisticuffs ( @FisticuffsMusic on Twitter) who produced several songs on the album! What sets the Fisticuffs (Brian & Mac) apart from the rest is they play all instruments you hear in their production...no samples! They are ridiculously talented and are sure to take the music world by storm. Not only have they produced for Miguel, but they've worked with artists such as Jazmine Sullivan whose album 'Love Me Back' is getting great reviews as well. The Fisticuffs produced 'One Night Stand' on her first album, Fearless. Congrats to The Fisticuffs and Miguel on an amazing record! This is only the beginning ;)

Happy Thanksgiving Day!
We'd like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving Day, we hope you have a blessed one. Remember, today may be the national day for thanksgiving, but we should live each day of our lives reflecting on the blessings that God has granted us all. Some may have riches, some may not; what matters most is that we have LIFE - be grateful. To all of our peers, please step away from the Mac! Spend time with the fam, eat well and sleep well.
Truth be told, we'll probably kick a session off today anyway #cantevenlie.

How Do You Know?
Almost every writer does their own rendition of the 'touch-down dance' when they knock out a record; whether they do it on the inside or outside doesn't matter, the point is they do it. There's something almost euphoric about hearing your own work posing perfectly on a musical canvas....or so you think. My question to our peers is - 'How do you know that that's a smash?' Hopefully you're not surrounded by a bunch of 'yes men'.
If you're anything like 80'S'ix , you wouldn't say a song isn't a smash; instead you'd say that song doesn't 'smash' as much as the others haha! But seriously, if you don't believe it, who else will? Of course you have to be realistic, not everything you do is necessarily going to break records but that doesn't mean you should strive for anything less than chart-toppers. Then there's the constant pressure to figure out what A&Rs and Executives want because we all know they want what's hot right now. So in the end we have to find a happy medium between sharing our artistry and satisfying the cookie-cutter expectations of a label; quite the task isn't it?
Hmm.
This post was the product of pure curiosity....please proceed.

Nicki Minaj
Okay...so Nicki M's album, Pink Friday, is set to drop on Tuesday, November 22nd. She was on the Rickey Smiley morning show today and it was actually a really good interview! Nicki Minaj actually seems to be a really "down to earth" person on her grind! The animated and quirky Minaj said that she still doesn't feel as though she's "made it", but she's just really blessed to be where she's at. She spoke about how her father abused alcohol and drugs, and stated that she found herself coping with it by creating music and staying focused. Her answers to Rickey and the team were definitely "heart-felt"...not contrived. She also denied the rumor that she and Keyshia Cole had any beef whatsoever, stating that the two had actually collaborated on Keyshia's latest album. She's on top right now...can't deny it. Like Regina Bradley said, "She's in the mouths of fans and haters alike and by the looks of it, Nicki Minaj's album is going to do quite well. What do you guys think? Let us know! Lata. ;)

VOTE!!!! VOTE!!! VOTE!!!
Okay we understand...many of you think that at this point, your vote doesn't matter and we've already done enough by voting before. Wrong! Your vote does count, and now more than ever, it's important that you go out and do your part! No matter what your belief is, you can make a difference in what's to happen in the future. One thing's certain; in the last few years, we have seen our economy suffer, we've seen our soldiers go to war, and we've seen the unemployment rate "skyrocket". Take a step to better our community and our families. Vote! Even if you're not into politics and don't know who to vote for, take the time to vote on matters that you do know about. Let your voice be heard so that changes can take place in whatever state you reside in and in the U.S. on a whole. THIS WILL AFFECT US ALL! You can't complain about what's being done or not being done if you don't take the time to try to change it, especially when you've earned your right to do so. Thanks again for visiting the blog and God bless! ;)
